Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I was born in Montegranaro, a little remote town in the pristine Italian hills, home to great people with great ideas. I took an early interest in art and fashion; my father is a collector of contemporary art and the family has been part of the fashion world for more than 60 years. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s in Business Management. I worked for three years in the fashion industry and traveled a great deal.
In the past two years I began to see a link between art and consciousness. ALIVESHOES is a culmination of my professional career and the result a life-long passion for fashion and art.
Where did the idea for ALIVESHOES come from?
It was a sudden flash of an idea and it took me a little more than a year to launch the project. I had observed for years how art and fashion tend to be restrictive. For example, fashion trends and products are usually dictated by a designer or a brand’s image and based on serial reproduction, while art is often perceived as something you only look at for a short period of time. ALIVESHOES is first and foremost part of the ongoing conversation about art by letting people wear a unique piece of it. It’s a fusion of the two worlds and this fusion creates a totally new concept.
What were some of the challenges you faced while creating the project?
From the launch day on all is a challenge but it’s fun and rewarding. The main challenge was to take something that only existed in my mind and execute it in the real world. It was also a challenge to form a team that would be truly on board with the project. Third and most was the challenge to not fall into the usual mundane work patterns that tend to diminish the excitement of a new project.
How are the participating artists chosen for the project?
We aim to choose a wide variety of artists from around the world who will express a sense of passion for the ALIVESHOES project. We think everyone is an artist and aim to create a mix of international artists, emerging artists, yet still leave it open to whomever wants to contribute.
How did you choose the locations for the art installations?
We picked lesser-known spots so that people could discover them along with the art.
Who are some of your favorite artists? Who inspires you?
Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Alighiero Boetti, Lucio Fontana
