About the brand and style of SORO


Soro Retrospective is an Afropolitan Lifestyle Company that is dedicated to showcasing Afro - Chic! We blend Western clothing and styles with African styles to create the Afropolitan Style. Bold colors with a minimalist approach. "The Soro Collection" is the name of our shoe and clothing collection.

The inspiration for my Soro shoes come from the native attire that is worn in the western region of Nigeria amongst the Yoruba tribe during ceremonies such as weddings , funerals etc. The white was inspired by the white lace blouses worn on top of a blue wrapper made of a material called Etu and the red comes from the rich red of the Alari scarf that is the main accessory adorned by both men and women during theses occasions .Soro is also the translation of the word Swag or Style from english to Yoruba and is normally used in conjunction with the prefix 'Ji ' when combined you get 'JI SORO ' which literally means to dig my style or if pronounced differently would mean to wake up my style or swag and that is what we have tried to achieve with the bold colors and minimalist design of the shoe. We want to wake up your style so others will dig it. Get It?

About the man behind the brand: Abiola Haastrup - Akintunde


I grew up on three different continents. From the U.K to Nigeria and then the U.S. I am an Afropolitan Man. I moved to Nigeria from the U.K when I was 8 years old and would remain there till I was 18. It was within this time period that I developed my knack for making my own clothes, Promoting and DJ'ing. In the early 90's I launched my underground promotions company in Washington DC, Rare Breed Productions(RBP) and would DJ under that moniker in San Francisco, Oakland and Los Angeles, from the mid 90's to early 2000's. In the mid 2000's I relocated from California to Washington DC and had a very successful career working as an Ambassador for high end luxury brand Maserati. Soro Retrospective was conceived in 2014 as an Afropolitan Lifestyle Company and launched in May of 2016 when I returned from my trip to Italy.
