About the STARRR brand

A new golden age of sneaker culture needs a new generation of sneaker. STARRR responds by creating a fusion between two wildly different generations of sneaker culture. It pays homage to retro styles from the 1980s and 1990s, but also riffs on the minimalism of the present. It appeals to kids from all different zip codes. Hipsters and techies are also permitted to wear it. I owe a great deal to my mentor, designer Carol Ann Watcher. She guided me on my journey as both designer and entrepreneur. The process of both designing the shoe and developing a business model taught me how passion needs to be mixed with precision, how design needs discipline, and how selling soles does not require selling your soul. It has been an education that has inspired me to keep pursuing the art and commerce of shoe design and to push myself in other areas of my life.

An idea and design created by Lucas Gerding

I am an entrepreneur, artist, and high school student living in Boulder, Colorado. I feel pulled between worlds. I am part gringo and part Latino (my parents are from different worlds: my mother from Chile and my dad from Planet New Jersey). I love basketball, but am also drawn to art and business. I live in a university town full of both athletes and entrepreneurs. I live between jock and artist and startup worlds. I have worked closely with mentors in clothing/shoe design and the startup world to design my product and hone my business model. I have done extensive research on the history of basketball sneaker design.
